For some years now, the “Mainzstrand” has established as some kind of retreat from the city life. The intensive use makes it necessary to give the infrastructure an architectural setting. Furthermore, a use of the property is to become possible by heatable premises also in the winter months. However, the retreat atmosphere of the complex as an 'island in the stone city' is to be preserved.

The café, situated on the Rhine, is consciously inclined towards the noise from the city and the bridge and enables a generous glass façade that offers a view of the Rhine in front of it. A staircase with seating steps extends over the building and thus enables a walking path over the roof terrace to the nearby shore.

The half frames, which are staggered narrower towards the rear, create a smooth transition between open façades of the café and closed façades of the back-of-house and the restrooms . This arrangement of Half-frame is not, however, only of a design nature; The wedge-shaped structure is dependent on more half-frames to support the greater load due to the increasing spans to the rear. This makes it possible to have a column-free room. Construction and design are in close symbiosis to each other.
